“WHO ARE OF MICE AND MEN AND ISSUES AND WHAT DO THEY DO?”
By, Katherine Bukley Atlanta, GA + Costa Mesa, CA
Since 2009 and 2012 respectively, Of Mice and Men and Issues have been saving lives and making people happy. Many fans are really thankful for these men because they saved their lives even though they were not with them physically. It’s clear that both bands love their fans a lot and consider them family even though they do not know them personally they know that you are their fan. The fans mean a lot to them and they have mentioned that many times. You would also be able to see how much they love their fans. They are often willing to take a picture, talk with their fans, and hang up all of their fan mail that they receive.
Of Mice & Men is from Costa Mesa, California and Issues is from Atlanta, Georgia. They are all very against bullying and always try to protect their family (fans) at concerts. Yes even at some concerts people could get bullied. If they see someone getting bullied in the crowd they would stop the show and stop it from getting worse. Austin Carlile helped a young girl with aggressive bone cancer named Katelyn Norman during one of his shows when he saw that she was being harassed by some guy. He stopped the show and beat up the kid for treated a girl like that. Austin got arrested for protecting a girl; that is not fair at all. When Austin got out of jail he found out that she had passed away.
Before Katelyn passed away, Austin tweeted, "I told her not to be afraid because she wouldn't be alone, my mom is already an angel and would be taking care of her.
Heaven gained another angel this morning. #RIPKatelynNorman Her light will never go out. She'll always be in my heart. I promised her that."
Michael Bohn and Tyler Carter have also helped fans that were struggling in the crowd. They have helped their fans when they were crowd surfing and they couldn’t get down, they always gave someone a hand when the security couldn’t. These two bands have helped thousands of people and many people that don’t enjoy the music hate on it just because it has screaming in it. To those people, don’t judge a book by its’ cover. The music has meaningful words in them that relate to people and make them happy. Also, just because most band members are covered in tattoos, don’t mean they are not the sweetest people.
